Lila’s Favorite TV Shows

Each show has a link to its IMDB page if you would like to know more

  • American Horror Story (2011-)

    • I love horror movies, and this is a horror show that actually scared me at times. Each season follows a different plot and my favorite seasons were the first three (Murder House, Asylum, Coven).

  • Arrested Development (2003-)

    • Probably the funniest show I’ve ever seen. I would like to pretend that season four and five do not exist. A comedy about a rich dysfunctional family as the head of the family goes to jail.

  • Avatar: The Last Airbender (2005-2008)

    • I didn’t watch this as a child, but I’m sad I didn’t. I recently watched this and I love it so much. It has strong female role models, complex characters, and a blind character (disability representation). This is beyond a children’s show and I can’t believe it’s from Nickelodeon. A twelve year old Avatar, master of all the elements, wakes up after a hundred year long sleep to a war torn world and has to learn all of the elements to help the world.

  • Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1997-2003)

    • This is my favorite TV Show. I started watching it when I was eight with my mom, so it has nostalgic value for me but it’s still really enjoyable now. A teenager has to face her destiny of being the vampire slayer in the fictional city of Sunnydale in California, a demon and vampire hotspot.

  • Community (2009-2015)

    • This is one of the most innovative and creative comedy show I’ve seen. I love this a lot and it just makes me smile. I would like to pretend that seasons four through six do not exist. A comedy about a group of students from a community college in a Spanish class together.

  • Daria (1997-2001)

    • I didn’t watch this when it came out, but I saw it recently and it holds up so well today. Animated comedy about a cynical teenager having just moved to a new high school.

  • Derry Girls (2018-)

    • This is the funniest and, in my opinion, most realistic Netflix original about and geared towards teenagers. An Irish comedy set during the early 1990s following a group of girls (and one guy) who attend an all girls catholic school.

  • Euphoria (2019-)

    • Teen melodrama that brings to light a lot of struggles teens face in the 21st century with many great performances.

  • Flight of the Concords (2007-2009)

    • I remember watching this with my dad and then completely forgot about it, but seriously this is so funny. Comedy set following New Zealanders in a band trying to make it in New York City.

  • Freaks and Geeks (1999-2000)

    • This show is so beautiful and was robbed of a second season. Follows a smart girl who starts hanging out with the ‘freaks’, or burnouts, while her younger brother is trying to figure out high school as a freshman being a ‘geek’.

  • Infinity Train (2019-)

    • In this animated show kids are placed on a mysterious train with the only way to get out is to reach 0. By growing and developing a person they can lower their assigned number. Each season follows a different person on the train and their journey through it. What I thought would just be a kids show ended up being something I thoroughly enjoyed and deeply love. The writing, animation, and character developments are superb and the show overall is definitely worth a try.

  • Killing Eve (2018-)

    • A British spy becomes fixated with a Russian serial killer obsessed with the spy. Through this comedic drama, the two chase each other and are practically connected. I am not normally someone who likes crime dramas, but this is such an excellent show that it quickly became a favorite of mine.

  • Malcolm in the Middle (2000-2006)

    • A great comedy following a family that is incredibly nostalgic to me.

  • Normal People (2020)

    • A complex, developing love story that follows a couple from high school through college. Through the on and off relationship, they show real growth and learn how to live in the world. Each episode sucked me in and I watched it very quickly.

  • Parks and Recreation (2009-2015)

    • Essentially The Office in a different font, but I like it a little bit more. A mockumentary about public officials in the Parks and Recreation department in the fictional city of Pawnee, Indiana.

  • Sailor Moon (1992-1997)

    • This is the only anime I’ve watched, but I really enjoy it. A group of school girls discover their destined to save earth and take their role as sailor guardians while battling evil.

  • Skam (2015-2017)

    • Norwegian teen drama that is a very universal story. There have been several remakes made internationally and I like those as well, but I love the original the most.

  • Skins (2007-2013)

    • A really good British teen drama that follows troubled groups of teenagers through three generations (two seasons per generation). My favorite generation is by far the first, but I also really like generation two.

  • The End of the F***ing World (2017-2019)

    • An absurd comedy about two very different characters coming together because one wants to kill the other.

  • The Good Place (2016-2020)

    • Takes a funny and philosophical take on the nature of the afterlife and what makes a person good.

  • The Great (2020-)

    • A comedy that follows Catherine the Great as she comes to be Queen of Russia and plans to enact a coup. I think that it’s a very engaging and humorous show that I quickly devoured.

  • The Haunting of Bly Manor (2020)

    • A sequel of sorts of The Haunting of Hill house is the story of another haunted house. An American nanny moves to England to take care of an orphaned family’s two kids in a large mansion. Featuring many of the same cast members from the original show, it was a quick and enjoyable binge. While this show felt less scary, the story hooked me more than the original with an incredible love story.

  • The Haunting of Hill House (2018)

    • A shorter horror show, but gave me good genuine scares and I’ve rewatched it so many times. But it is the kind of show that I don’t think would do well with another season. Follows a family resisting the past and their childhood home.

  • The Office (2005-2013)

    • Kind of overrated, but I still enjoy it. A mockumentary about employees at a paper company.

  • Wayne (2019)

    • The show follows a teen who always seems to find trouble because of his moral desire to enact vigilante justice as he meets a girl and they travel to get back his father’s car. While being very graphic and violent, it’s very enjoyable and is very well done.
