1. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018)

Dir. Rodney Rothman, Peter Ramsey, and Bob Persichetti

I could not find a single flaw in this movie even if I tried. This movie means a lot to me, and I am honestly so grateful I live in the dimension of the multiverse where this movie exists.

2. Portrait of a Lady on Fire (2019)

Dir. Céline Sciamma

An intense depiction of love and passion. It may be slow, but every moment is entrancing. It gives a new meaning to the word breathtaking.

3. Playtime (1967)

Dir. Jacques Tati

There is nothing quite as hypnotizing as this movie. There is no movie out there quite like it. If I could I would have every shot of this film hung up on my wall.

4. The Handmaiden (2016)

Dir. Park Chan-wook

I don’t even want to write anything about this one. You need to watch it knowing absolutely nothing about it. It is truly a once in a lifetime experience.

5. Sunset Boulevard (1950)

Dir. Billy Wilder

Gloria Swanson is the greatest antagonist of all time. “No one ever leaves a star. That’s what makes one a star.”

6. Hunt for the Wilderpeople (2016)

Dir. Taika Waititi

Hunt for the Wilderpeople is a masterclass in storytelling. In the less than two hours screen time, you will feel every emotion and be completely immersed in the world of Ricky and Hec.

7. The Last Black Man in San Francisco (2019)

Dir. Joe Talbot

This movie contains one of my favorite scores of all time. It’s a commentary on masculinity and friendship unlike any other film I’ve seen before.

8. Do the Right Thing (1989)

Dir. Spike Lee

Unfortunately, over 30 years later this film is just as relevant as when it first came out. Every single frame of this film is packed with symbolism and motifs. Every single watch there is more to pick up on.

9. Get Out (2017)

Dir. Jordan Peele

It’s almost impossible to believe this is a directorial debut. Daniel Kaluuya gives one of the greatest performances of all time ad Chris Washington. If you have not seen this yet, what are you doing?

10. Rope (1948)

Dir. Alfred Hitchcock

Rope is 81 minutes of pure anxiety. With the illusion of a one-shot film, Rope never loses the audience’s attention.
